When Bob and Claire bought the ruin near to Mortagua the location was really more important than the structure.

Their specification was to create a large, modern, open plan villa with 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, fully insulated and finished to a high quality standard.
This is what was the final project looked like.

The whole roof structure was removed and changed, a fully integrated automatic heating system was installed allowing a wide range of fuel options (solar, wood, oil, electric) depending on the time of the year and level of convenience required, which has proved very efficient.

The outbuildings in the courtyard were consolidated and the whole structure fully insulated. Top of the range wood effect aluminium doors and window units incorporating thermal barriers for extra efficiency were fitted.
The architect design made the most of the wonderful views. The main bulk of the project from start to finish including the planning approvals took approximately nine months. During this time the existing structure was completely re-modeled and extended to cover an area of approximately double its original size.
